Following the death of Maya's sister Brigitte, there was a beautiful service at The Bruce Funeral Home. We had a small reception at the Las Brasas hall in Ridgewood with all of those who remembered her best. I was never very close with Brigitte, but being my sister-in-law, we spend some time together. I also knew her as a well connected, often funny member of the Bushwick business community.
Brigitte could liven up any party with her dancing and singing. She was generous to her patrons. She was a great example for the many members of her church. Most importantly, she was a dutiful older sister to Maya, who was always willing to help her on a moments notice. They spent as much time together as adults as they did as children, which is a rare and beautiful example of family ties.
We thank all those who have offered condolances, and I would kindly ask that those visiting the shop this week direct all inquiries on Brigitte to me instead of Maya, as she is still grieving.
Thanks- Simon
